Margot Robbie took the world by surprise when she wed her longtime love Tom Ackerley in a secret ceremony near where she grew up in Gold Coast, Australia. And if that wasn’t sweet enough for you, now we’ve learned that the gown Robbie wore when she tied the knot was no straight-from-the-runway bridal look; it was actually her mother’s dress.
The Courier-Mail reports that Robbie’s ruffled off-the-shoulder lace gown is 30 years old and first belonged to her mom, Sarie Kessler. Robbie also reportedly waited until just last week to have the dress altered to fit her—pretty last-minute in terms of bridal-gown fittings. Aside from providing the dress, Robbie’s mom had another big role to play in her daughter’s ceremony. According to The Telegraph, she was on hand to walk her daughter down the aisle and officially give her away.
News.com.au obtained the first photos of Robbie on her big day and reported that the actress decided against wearing a traditional veil, instead opting for just her golden mane in loose curls.
Robbie and Ackerley reportedly celebrated their wedding with 50 guests, who relinquished their cameras and cell phones before boarding buses to the secret venue. The festivities began in the late afternoon and continued well into the night.
Robbie also confirmed the news of her nuptials herself in an Instagram posted soon after the wedding. Her sparkly pear-shaped ring is clearly the main focus of the photo, but the happy couple can be seen midsmooch in the background.
